MTX..............Taken on an empty stomach or with food? Options

Recently on a thread we've been talking about if MTX should be taken on an empty stomach or with food. I saw my consultant last Friday and it was one of the questions on my list. He said it doesn't make any difference at all............. Thats probably why there is nothing about on the drug info sheet.

After advice on here I have started taking mine on an empty stomach, it does seem to make sense, as it will get into your system quicker.

I would never risk taking it on an empty stomach.
I take mine just before my evening meal, with water, and always have a yoghurt drink with it.

Yes, well my packet leaflet says on an empty stomach! And I think providing you take the stomach protector regularly and swallow with loads of water it won't be a problem. BUT like anything else keep an eye on things! As long as it provides benefit that's what matters. Just wonder whether those who have failed on MTX might have benefited from taking it differently?? We'll never know!

well when i went on MTX you got councled before hand .

As well as all the info they gave me too read the lot says take with food .
the nurse pushed that you allways made sure you ate when taking MTX
In fact i make sure i have a little extra

i don,t think taking it with coffee is a good idea would think taking it with clear fluids would be best
Most of us are not on a tummy potecter so take it with food as its a strong drug

You are right about not taking drugs with coffee, Chrissie. My GP said it was adviseable to take ANY drugs with water only.

Oh dear, I've been doing it all wrong then.

Most mornings I take mine with a drink of coffee. Tea time ones are normally with water................but Saturday nights it's wine!!!!!
